Around four years ago (I can’t quite believe where the time has gone!) I decided to start a project.

As I looked around, I could see so many beautiful businesses here in Kent that were owned and run by local Mums, and I really wanted to celebrate that.

I decided to dedicate a blog post each month to one of those amazing Mums…

To introduce them to you.

To highlight the incredible things, they were achieving.

…and more importantly, to show them what a fantastic job they were doing.

And, my goodness, 4 years on, it still brings me soooooooo much joy (and I hope that shows!!!!)

So, without further ado, it gives me great pleasure to introduce you to the lovely Chantelle Wicks - BioSculpture Gel & Lash Specialist in Maidstone and proud owner of Halo Nails.

I was lucky enough to meet up with Chantelle at her home salon in Maidstone where I had the opportunity to see her in action and chat all about her beautiful business...

Tell us about your business and what services you offer

Halo Nails is a private 1:2:1 nail service based in my home in Loose, Maidstone.

I specialise in gel polish on the natural nail, using premium products that focus on strengthening and restoring nail health.

My core services include Bio Sculpture Prescriptive Gel Polish, HEMA-free builder gel, and IBX repair and strengthening treatments.

I also offer gel pedicures, Elim heel peels, and lash lift and tint treatments.

Is there a story behind the name you chose?

I chose the name Halo Nails because it represents care and protection, which  reflects my approach to nails.

I don’t offer enhancements; instead, I focus on nurturing the natural nail, helping it grow stronger and healthier while still looking beautifully polished.

What do you offer to your clients that no one else does?

I believe the experience I offer is very personal, especially as it’s based in my own home.

I really get to know my clients and love catching up with them.

Nail techs are in a privileged position of trust, and clients often open up during appointments, so being a good listener is incredibly important to me.

Many of the women I see are caring for elderly parents or spouses, and their appointment here is often the one time someone is looking after them.

I like to make sure the little things matter — their favourite drink made just how they like it — because small gestures can mean a lot.

Where does your inspiration come from?

My inspiration comes from women from all walks of life who are always striving for better things, even when it isn’t easy.

Real women with busy lives, responsibilities, and very little time for themselves.

I’m inspired by creating a calm, welcoming space where they can switch off, feel cared for, and leave feeling a little lighter than when they arrived.

What is your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part of my job is seeing a client’s confidence bloom by the end of their appointment.

I meet many women who feel ashamed of their nails — whether they’re nail biters or pickers, have had damage in the past, or simply haven’t had the time or headspace to prioritise themselves.

They often put off booking because they’re embarrassed, but once they’re here and we’ve talked through what they’d like to achieve, they relax and really enjoy the process.

Watching that shift in confidence is the most rewarding part of what I do.
