Celebrating Kent Mums in Business: Bearsted Counselling & Psychotherapy

Bearsted Counselling & Psychotherapy Maidstone Claire Roads Photography

It’s that time again (yay!!).

Time for me to introduce you to another one of our amazing Kent Mums in Business….

We really do have soooooo many fantastic businesses in the County which are owned and run by incredible local Mums…

…and I think it is incredibly important to celebrate them and show them what a great job they are doing.

This month I have the pleasure of introducing you to Collette Lambert; Kent Mum of two, registered psychotherapist and the proud owner of Bearsted Counselling & Psychotherapy.

I was lucky enough to spend a lovely morning with Collette in her (beautiful!) private treatment room in Maidstone.

We caught up over a cuppa (had to be done!) chatted all about her business and why she is passionate about supporting people to look after their mental health and well-being through talking therapy.

Bearsted Counselling & Psychotherapy

Tell us about your business and what services you offer?

I am a qualified psychotherapist and I offer one-to-one psychotherapy to young people and adults from my private therapy room in Bearsted, Maidstone.

Psychotherapy is a type of talking therapy which offers clients a safe and non-judgemental space in which to explore their thoughts, feelings and any difficulties that they may be facing in their day-to-day lives.

It can help people to see different perspectives on situations, relationships and themselves and find better ways to cope with challenges.

People may access therapy for a number of reasons including grief, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, addiction, work-related issues and more.

Is there a story behind the name you chose?

I wanted a name that was simple to understand and would reflect what I offer and where I am based; however I also have clients from across the country and abroad who access online therapy with me.

What do you offer to your clients that no-one else does?

There are many experienced psychotherapists available in Kent and across the UK.

When choosing a psychotherapist it is really important that a client feels comfortable with the therapist and feels like they are someone who they can trust and open up to.

In terms of my own style of therapy and what I can offer someone; I would say that one of the most important parts of my work is to support clients to become more aware and more accepting of who they are.

I do not believe that people need 'improving' or 'fixing' instead I feel that clients become more content with their lives when they are able see and accept all parts of themselves and better able to express their wants, needs and desires.

I would like to think that I have a warm and holistic approach with clients and I am able to adapt according to what each individual needs and how they experience the world.

I also offer flexibility with sessions and therefore have clients who have in-person therapy, some who have telephone therapy and others who I have sessions with online.

Where does your inspiration come from?

My Mum has worked in mental health her whole career and is a qualified Counsellor so I think I have had an interest in mental health since I was a teenager.

Psychology has always fascinated me so I studied it at school and university.  I worked in various learning and development roles after university and then came across a psychotherapy course when I was in my late 20's which really piqued my interest.

It was a long, tough training but I soon learned how powerful psychotherapy can be and what a difference it can make to someone's life.

I am hugely passionate about mental health and believe that looking after our mental health is crucial to our overall well-being.

What is your favourite part of your job?

My role gives me a huge sense of purpose and I am drawn to working in a role that can make a difference to people's lives.

I feel very privileged to be part of someone's personal journey and when clients share their innermost thoughts and feelings with me.

I love working alongside people and seeing how far they progress during our work together.

Each person's therapy experience is different and people bring different backgrounds and challenges to the therapy room.

I really enjoy learning about people's lives and supporting them to realise their strengths, identify their values, appreciate their uniqueness and reflect on how their lives are and what choices they can make to shape a life they really want.
