Around three years ago (I can’t quite believe where the time has gone!) I decided to start a little project.
As I looked around, I could see so many beautiful businesses here in Kent that were owned and run by local Mums, and I really wanted to celebrate that.
I decided to dedicate a blog post each month to one of those amazing Mums…
To introduce them to you.
To highlight the incredible things, they were achieving.
…and more importantly, to show them what a fantastic job they were doing.
And, my goodness, 3 years on, it still brings me soooooooo much joy (and I hope that shows!!!!)
So without further ado, it gives me great pleasure to introduce you to my first Kent Mum in Business of 2025!
This is the lovely Vickie Gordon, a qualified Nanny, certified gentle sleep consultant and the proud owner of Vickie Sleep Consultant
I was lucky enough to meet up with Vickie at her home office in Maidstone where I had the opportunity to talk to her all about her beautiful business...

Tell us about your business and what services you offer?
I am an infant sleep coach who supports families who wish to make changes to their little ones' sleep. I mostly work remotely but have been increasing my home visits over the last 6 months.
I use gentle and fully responsive methods which are designed and tailored to each family.
I create bespoke sleep plans for the families to follow while also supporting them via phone and messaging.
I cover a variety of package levels so there is something to suit everyone.
What do you offer to your clients that no-one else does?
I believe I offer a fully bespoke and holistic approach to sleep.
I have over 25 years’ experience of working with children and helping families which gives me a very varied and extensive understanding of just how different each baby and child is.
I really focus on the parenting style and the little one’s temperament.
I don’t just look at their current sleep situation, I look at their daytime routine, any possible red flags and so much more so that I can build a full picture and put the correct plan in place.

Where does your inspiration come from?
As predictable as it sounds, my biggest inspiration comes from my twins!
I was blessed to have babies who liked sleep and mastered it with very little input from me. However, like most babies, sleep changed and we did have some very exhausting periods where sleep did go a little wonky.
It was the sleep deprivation that I faced then that made me realise how much other parents needed better support when it came to sleep.
If I felt broken from a few weeks of “bad” sleep, how were other parents managing with much longer periods of sleep deprivation?
It was this that made me further my training and set myself up as a sleep coach.
Now, seeing how my support can turn family’s around is my ongoing inspiration.
What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of the job has to be meeting so many wonderful families and seeing the success they achieve.
So often I really miss the communication with a family once we finish a plan. Especially during the lockdowns, those families will never know how our chats helped me stay focused.
When a family comes to me in a real state of sleep deprivation, the change in them by the time we finish is so noticeable.
Supporting them with sleep enables them to have a better life balance which is priceless.
I love getting messages from families such as “you don’t realise the difference it’s making to our lives” and “not only have you saved our sleep, I truly believe you have saved our marriage”.
